The Association of European Businesses in the Russian Federation has welcomed today’s announcement by the RF Minister for Agriculture Alexei Gordeyev that Russia is to lift its ban on imports of meat from Poland. With this obstacle now removed, the AEB calls upon the Russian and EU sides to begin negotiations on the New Strategic Partnership Agreement. In our view, this is an urgent priority for both sides given that the agreement that is currently in place is outdated and does not reflect the realities of contemporary economic ties between Russia and the EU.
AEB CEO Dr. Frank Schauff commented: “We are pleased that the negotiations between the Polish and Russian sides have reached a positive conclusion and we hope that this announcement signals the beginning of a new era of constructive partnership between the two countries. On the wider stage of EU-Russia relations, we expect that this move will also provide a much-needed impetus to beginning the negotiations on the New Strategic Partnership Agreement.”
