AEB Discussed New Rules of Russian Language and Consumer Protection at the Legal Committee Meeting

On March 30, 2026, an online meeting of the AEB Legal Committee was held, dedicated to the application of new linguistic requirements for goods and advertising in accordance with amendments to the Law of the Russian Federation "On Consumer Rights Protection", which came into force on March 1, 2026.

The event featured a discussion of problematic enforcement issues, including the extension of requirements to product cards and banners on marketplaces, the need to translate price tags in physical stores into Russian, as well as the procedure for applying exceptions for trademarks (translation of descriptive elements not forming part of the trademark on product packaging). 

Dmitry Semenov, Director, Head of Intellectual Property Practice at B1 Legal Services, delivered a report on "New Rules for the Use of the Russian Language and Means of Individualization." The speaker presented the key legislative innovations, analyzed the first law enforcement approaches, and answered questions from the audience.
