The AEB was delighted to hold a briefing by Mikhail Shvydkoy, Head of Federal Agency of Culture and Cinematography who spoke to AEB members on “Russian Culture, Market and State Guarantees”, on Monday, March 19 from 10:30 – 12:00 at the National Hotel.
The television broadcast, “The Cultural Revolution”, hosted by Mr. Shvydkoy, is one of the most popular, provocative and brilliantly presented programs on Russian TV today. A specialist in 18th Century British theatre, Mikhail Shvydkoy is the author of numerous publications on the history of theatre and dramatic art. He is a professor at the Russian State University of Humanities where he lectures on foreign theatre, and is a member of the Union of Russian Writers, Union of Theater Workers, and Union of Journalists.
From 1993-1997 Mr. Shvydkoy was deputy minister of culture, a position he held until appointed general director of television station “Kultura”. From May 21, 1998 to January 31, 2000 he was the head of the All-Russian State TV and Radio Company (VGTRK).
In February 2000 Mikhail Shvydkoy was appointed Minister of Culture. He is now Head of the Federal Agency of Culture and Cinematography.
