Pharma sector embeds sustainability across supply chain, AEB committees say

On November 24, 2025, AEB Sustainability Committee and Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals Committees held a joint meeting at the SKOLKOVO School of Management.


Tadzio Schilling, AEB CEO, addressed the participants with a welcome speech. 

Roman Ishmukhametov, Chairman of the AEB Sustainability Committee, moderated the discussion.

Experts from SKOLKOVO Centers for Sustainable Development and Healthcare, Anastasia Opanasenko and Marina Veldanova, made a keynote intervention as to how sustainability integrates in and shapes the pharmaceutical companies throughout their entire value chain, including R&D, production, logistics, marketing, sales and disposal of drugs. 

Speakers from AstraZeneca, Servier, Roche and BIOCAD presented their sustainability strategies, material topic and cases relating to their core business and to certain selective social & environmental impact initiative.

Vladimir Gorchakov, Senior Director of Sustainability Risks Assessment Group at ACRA, commented on which characteristics of pharmaceutical companies’ activities define how sustainable they are.
 
The participants agreed that sustainability is the backbone topic for pharmaceutical industry defining their entire operations and creating long-term societal value through innovation, responsible manufacturing and business ethics.

The dialogue organized by the two committees became the first dive into sustainability in pharmaceuticals opening the door to further collaborations between AEB members and external partners on sustainability front.
