On January 29, 2007 provided an opportunity to meet two of the most brilliant and well-known experts from think tank about Russia and the European Union, Sergey Karaganov and Hans-Joachim Spanger.
Sergey Karaganov specializes in Soviet/Russian foreign and defense policies, especially on economic aspects of Russian-West European interaction. Since 1989 he has been Deputy Director of the Institute of Europe of the Academy of Sciences of Russia. He is Chairman of the Presidium of the Council of Foreign and Defense Policy, member of several prestigious international organisations, and chairman of the editorial board of the magazine “Russia in Global Policy”. He is author of 17 books and brochures, and 350 articles, which were published in more than 30 countries.
Hans-Joachim Spanger works at the Peace Research Institute of Frankfort and is considered as one of the best European experts. He is a permanent participant in the “Petersburg Dialogue”, the official German-Russian forum for the dialogue of civil society under the auspices of President Putin and Chancellor Merkel. He is also one of the organisers of “Schlangenbad Talks”, an annual German-Russian foreign and security policy exchange of experts’ views. His research area is comparative politics and international relations with a focus on patterns of socioeconomic change.
