The Association of European Businesses is pleased to invite you to the open event organized by the AEB Green Initiative Green Finance Workstream: Restoration of peatlands as a means for offsetting carbon. Economic and Ecosystem benefits for businesses.

The event will take place on February 9, 2022 from 11:00 till 13:00 via Zoom.

As part of the Green Finance workstream of AEB Green Initiative will present a climate project based on the outcomes of the German-Russian cooperation on “Restoring Peatlands in Russia for Fire Prevention and Climate Change Mitigation” (2011-2023), its preliminary results and challenges.

We will compare current practices of accounting of peatlands and peatlands at the regional level and set them in a context that matters for financial actors: How can restored wetlands adsorbing CO2 be verified as means of carbon offset?

Is carbon-offsetting still a proven concept of climate change mitigation after some of them have been accused of being “Greenwashing” in other regions of the world?
